The region known as Burgundy is one that was at one time French and at another time Swiss. As with most border towns the dialect is a bit different as well as the food of the region. It seems like there is no place in Europe that has not experienced some occupation and this region is no exception as it was occupied by the Romans before being taken over by the Franks.

The region of Burgundy was once known as a separate country called the Burgundians which was settled by the Germans. Having a Swiss and French influence with a German background lends this part of France to a great mix of cultures that distinguishes it from the rest of Europe.

The most notable feature of this part of the world is the wines that are produced. Although while the name of Burgundy means red both types of wines are made in this part of France. You can find some of the best examples of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gamay or Aligote wines in this part France. There is much pride in the vineyards and those that produce the wine here so be sure to pay them some deference and respect when visiting.

There are of course many vineyards to tour in this part of France and that should certainly be part of the tour. However there are many other hidden gems that I hope to shed some light on in the course of writing this website so please stay tuned to what I have to offer.
